How Does Acupuncture Work?

Acupuncture stimulates the body’s ability to heal itself by activating specific points on the body which improves the circulation of blood. Acupuncture also encourages the release of endorphins and cortisol which are the body’s natural pain relievers and healers. The body can create disharmonies through various physical and mental stresses in life and this imbalance disrupts the movement of the body’s vital energy (qi) along the meridian pathways, which are channels through which the body’s energy is thought to flow. Acupuncture involves the insertion of very fine, sterile needles at specific points in the body which restores biochemical balance and stimulates the body’s natural healing abilities, reduces inflammation, and promotes physical and emotional well-being.

What Does Acupuncture Feel Like?

Many first-time patients are concerned that acupuncture needles will hurt and feel like injections. They won’t. Acupuncture uses hair-thin, flexible needles that you will hardly feel upon insertion. Most patients find acupuncture deeply satisfying and leave the treatment feeling relaxed both mentally and physically.
